Donta Hightsower wants the 49ers to keep him on the roster as long as possible.
The San Francisco 49ers linebacker, who is on the physically unable to perform list with a torn pectoral muscle, said Sunday that he wants to be out there in the NFL and he wants the team to keep drafting and developing players.
Hightsower is currently on the PUP list after a knee injury in Week 2.
He had surgery to repair a torn labrum in Week 9.
His contract expires after this season.
Hightower said Sunday on “The Dan Patrick Show” that he was open to returning to the field if the 49er organization wanted to keep the team in the playoff picture.
He added that he has spoken to his agent about a possible return to the team.
“I think the most important thing for me right now is that I can be a part of a team that has a championship,” Hightsow said.
Hightsow, who missed the first three games of the season because of the injury, has not been cleared for contact since.”
I think it’s important for the players and the organization that I do that.”
